IMAGE SIZES FOR PROOF BOOKS
To save yourself time when designing a proof book, we suggest downsizing your images before uploading. Templates contain a set number of square image slots (listed below). When you create your proof book, each image is dropped into a slot without cropping so that the image’s largest dimension is the same size as the slot the image was placed in.

Depending on which size and how many images per page you want, we suggest downsizing your images so that the longest dimension is equal to the size of the image’s intended image slot.

Example: You plan to create an 8 x 12" proof book using the six-image template, and all the pictures you intend to upload are 4 x 6". Since the page space reserved for each image on the six-image template is only 2.803 x 2.803", leaving your original images at 4 x 6" will cause unnecessary delays during uploading and ordering. Instead, we recommend shrinking your images to 1.869 x 2.803" so they will be the exact size our system uses to fit them into the six-image template.

This is just one example; please consult the table below to figure out the image sizes and book layout that works best for you.

Image Size Tips
File Size: When preparing files, please note that files don’t necessarily need to be extremely large to achieve exceptional print quality. JPG Images saved as high quality resolution setting of 8 or higher in Adobe Photoshop will typically achieve excellent print quality. Images targeted at 300dpi will achieve maximum quality.

Image Resizing: To resize your images in Adobe Photoshop so that they comply with the recommended 300dpi resolution, follow these steps:

1.) Open the file and select Image > Image Size from the top menu.

2.) This window will give you the pixel dimensions (total pixels present in the image), the document size (the size at which it will print) and the resolution (how densely the pixels are packed together). The document size is determined by dividing the pixel dimensions by the resolution. Since we are targeting a resolution of 300dpi, first, make sure the Resample Image box is unchecked. This will allow you to alter the resolution or document size (proportional to eachother) without altering the original pixel dimensions. Essentially, you are condesning the same amount of image information into a smaller print space. This is what determines how clearly your image will print and helps minimize artifacting (jagged edges or blurriness).

3.) Enter 300 in the resolution field. This will change the document size to reflect how large your image will be when printed at 300dpi. If the document size shows up smaller than you would like, your image will not print clearly at your desired size. You can still utilize this image but we make no guarantee about its print quality. If the document size is larger than your desired final size, you can upload it as is and the site will downsample it accordingly, or, you can downsample it yourself and save time uploading.

4.) To downsample your image, make sure the Resample Image box is checked this time. This will force the pixel dimensions to change depending on the resolution or document size you enter. With this box checked and a value of 300 in the resolution field, you can enter the desired document size and your image will be downsampled. You can then save your changes and begin uploading your images to the site.
